FFW-X SM Pump Signal WDMs

Product information "FFW-X SM Pump Signal WDMs"

Gooch & Housego’s FFW-X single mode (SM) fused pump signal wavelength division multiplexers (WDMs) are used for multiplexing signal and pump power in erbium-doped power amplifiers, pumped by wavelengths from 960 to 1480 nm.

Gooch & Housego (G&H) proprietary manufacturing technology provides uniquely low excess loss, along with low polarization and temperature dependence for all ports. The ultra-low loss of these components promotes high efficiency of use of pump power and low noise figure.

These high-performance parts are available in many wavelength configurations, fiber and connector options, with standard as well as subminiature packages. They can therefore be readily specified in a wide variety of applications, enabling rapid design cycles and new project builds.

Fused Pump Signal WDMs 980 nm (FFW-xxxxx2xxx):
G&H’s FFW-xxxxx2xxx series of fused pump signal WDMs, 980 nm, multiplex signal and pump power in 980, 960 or 1060 nm-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Wavelength configurations allow for 960, 980 or 1060 nm pumping and C, L or C+L signal bands. Reliability is assured through qualification to Telcordia GR-1221, with a field proven FIT rate of <1.

Fused Pump Signal WDMs 1480 nm (FFW-3xxxx21xx):
The Gooch & Housego FFW-3xxxx21xx series of fused pump signal WDMs, 1480 nm, multiplex signal and pump power in 1480 nm-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Wavelength configurations are 1480 nm – C band and 1480 nm – L band.

Subminiature Pump Signal WDMs (FFW-5x1xx2xx0):
G&H’s FFW-5x1xx2xx0 series of subminiature pump signal WDMs provide low-loss multiplexing of pump and signal in an ultra-short 32 mm length package. Designed for space-constrained optical amplifiers, the product is manufactured using ø80 µm cladding fiber. This enables low fiber bend radius without compromising mechanical integrity.

Standard wavelengths of operation are based on 980 nm pumping and C, L or C+L signal bands. However, many other wavelength combinations are available for diverse requirements such as sensing, fiber lasers and fiber Gyros. Do not hesitate to contact AMS Technologies with your specific requirements. Reliability is assured through qualification to Telcordia GR-1221.

The light from each fiber is first collimated. The collimated beams are then combined using a dichroic filter, with typically the longer wavelength transmitted from port T, the shorter wavelength reflected from port R. The combined beams are then focused into the output fiber at Port 1. The device typically maintains polarization to better than 20 dB for 1300 and 1550 nm applications. OZ Optics manufacturers wave division multiplexers for both telecom and non-telecom applications. One advantage of OZ Optics’ WDMs is that different fiber types can be used on the input and output ends of the device. This is especially useful in fiber amplifier applications, when the Erbium doped fibers have a different core diameter and numerical aperture. WDMs with 1 dB typical insertion loss have been made this way. OZ Optics also offers source to fiber wavelength division multiplexers, where the sources are mounted directly onto the device. Miniature size WDMs are ideal for telecommunication applications such as drop/add filters for either coarse WDM (CWDM) or dense WDM (DWDM) applications. They are also used for combining 980 to 1080 nm pump light with 1550 nm signals in erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). Variants with higher extinction ratios are available on request. OZ Optics specializes in manufacturing custom designed WDM's. Contact AMS Technologies for further information.
