CHROMALASE II Laser Diode Modules

Product information "CHROMALASE II Laser Diode Modules"

375 to 785 nm; 18 to 120 mW; Beam Size 0.8 to 1.3 mm Circular, 1x2 to 4x1 mm Elliptical

Blue Sky Research’s CHROMALASE II™ series of high-performance laser diode modules has been optimized to meet the demanding performance requirements of medical, life sciences and automated instrumentation. These laser diode modules incorporate highly integrated sophisticated electronics for laser drive and protection, modulation and feedback functions.

The CHROMALASE II ultra-compact stand-alone assembly is RoHs compliant and can be ordered with a variety of collimation optics which allows easy integration into your system. A wide variety of wavelength and power options are available including the very popular 405, 488, 532 and 635 nm products.

Blue Sky Research’s CHROMALASE II design incorporates standardized control and alarm firmware, protection circuitry and low-noise operation into a compact, stand-alone assembly. Everything you need to operate this laser from a simple 12 VDC supply is integrated in the laser module.

The CHROMALASE II laser diode modules are temperature stabilized with a thermoelectric cooler (TEC), and the integrated controller includes laser driver, output power stabilization, adjustable power level control, modulation capability, reverse and over voltage protection and ESD-fast transient suppression circuitry.

Each semiconductor laser diode system can be ordered with or without Blue Sky Research’s patented “µLens” or micro-optic beam correction optics. Systems with µLens will have near perfect Gaussian and circular beam shapes and corrected laser diode wave front distortions.

Laser systems without the micro-optic beam correction have all the advantages of Blue Sky Research’s small, highly integrated packaging while retaining the standard elliptical shape (typical 3:1 aspect ratio) of semiconductor lasers.

For the CHROMALASE II series of fiber-coupled diode laser modules the dedicated power supply CLPS is available as an accessory. This device provides up to 2.5 A of current for laser diode and TEC and allows the operation of the CHROMALASE II series from standard power sockets with 100 to 240 VAC.

Filters and Mirrors for Laser Applications
The use of lasers as the illumination source for fluorescence applications requires special consideration for the optical path. This special attention centers on the coherent nature of the light, the small beam diameter, the polarization, and the power. There are also circumstances where cone angle and scatter within the system play significantly into the design of the optics. Chroma Technology specializes in the design and manufacture of optical filters and coatings for applications that require extreme precision in color separation, optical quality, and signal purity. Chroma Technology’s portfolio comprises single bandpass and single edge filters, multi bandpass and multi band dichroic beamsplitters, complete filter sets for single band, longpass, shortpass and multi band as well as filter accessories. Laser optics must be designed and made differently from standard widefield filters and mirrors. While it is true that most laser optics will work fine in widefield applications, the inverse is clearly not true, as shown by the different specifications in each case. The differences in design and construction may not be apparent to the end-user in every laser application. However, these differences will be painfully obvious in most experiments if these specifications are not met, especially with more demanding applications such as TIRF, Raman, and multi-photon microscopy. While the entire beam path should be considered carefully, the downloadable “application note filters and mirrors for laser applications” emphasizes the filters and dichroic mirrors used in the beam path. Get in touch with the AMS Technologies optical filter experts today to find out which Chroma Technology optical and mirrors for laser applications can meet the demands and challenges of your project.
