Various different LED drivers and controllers are available from AMS Technologies, designed to drive a broad range of LED light sources. Our large LED driver portfolio ranges from manual and analog input devices providing up to 1.2 A LED current for one channel all the way to multi-channel analog and digital LED control systems.
2-channel manual and analog input LED controllers allow to control each channel’s current output either with a manual knob or via 0 to 5 V analog input, with a DIP switch for selecting the control mode. Our series of single- and two-channel high-current LED controllers features manual and trigger control modes and provides up to 18 A of LED current with a maximum trigger modulation frequency between 3 kHz and up to 100 kHz.
Our series of USB & manual LED controllers allows to choose either manual (local) or digital (remote) control of up to four LED output channels independently. These controllers can be operated remotely via USB interface and a Windows-based application software, provided with the device. In software control mode, each channel can be individually configured by the software to operate in normal (CW) or pulse-width modulated strobe modes.
If manual control is not needed, our series of purely USB-controlled devices with 1 or 2 output channels are very compact, universal solutions for driving a broad range of LED light sources with output currents up to 1000 mA. Further interface options are provided by USB/RS232 LED controllers allowing to control up to 16 channels with output currents of up to 1000 mA per channel in continuous or strobe mode. Variants with 2 or 4 output channels are also available featuring an additional external trigger input and output currents of up to 3500 mA per channel.
Our 4-channel analog and digital I/O control module without driver circuit allows to upgrade our manual and trigger mode analog LED controllers with system-level digital remote control features via USB or RS232 interface. Each of the four channels provides an external trigger input, a 0-5 V analog voltage output and a digital output.
Accessories for our LED controllers include dedicated power adapters, USB, adapter and LED source connector cables as well as mounting brackets.

Definition
LED controllers are used to drive and control light emitting diodes (LEDs) based on semiconducting materials. LED drivers and controllers provide the voltage and current required to operate the LEDs and enable precise control of the LED brightness. LED controllers usually operate as a controllable or constant current source, because at constant semiconductor temperature, the luminous flux of a light emitting diode is approximately proportional to the current flowing through it. With a constant current source LED driver, constant LED brightness can be achieved even if the supply voltage or temperature fluctuates.
For the control of multiple LEDs connected in series, the maximum output voltage of the LED controller must be higher than the sum of the forward voltages of the LEDs connected in series. Protective functions such as overcurrent limiting prevent damage to the connected LED light sources, for example due to inrush currents during power-on.
Among the important properties of LED controllers are the number of output channels, the maximum output current (per channel), the maximum output voltage and the options for control. Both manual control via switches or knobs and remote control via analogue interface (for example 0 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V), to which linear or PWM signals can be applied, or via computer and software via digital interfaces such as USB or RS232 are possible. For fast switching of LEDs, some LED controllers also offer external trigger inputs, usually with TTL level.
