Luciol Instruments’ LDT-100 high-resolution distributed optical temperature sensor measures the temperature profile across standard optical fibers. The measurement technique is based on Raman scattering.

Due to the temperature dependence of the Raman scattering signal (Anti-Stokes), temperature variations along the sensing optical fiber are transformed in a variation of the backscattered signal.

The LDT-100 uses photon-counting technology to achieve a high detection efficiency and very high spatial resolution. An internal temperature calibration reference makes the system ready for testing and minimizes time consuming user re-calibration.

The LDT-100 also integrates OTDR testing capability which allows integrity and condition testing of the sensing optical fiber. The LDT-100 is a fully portable, simple and easy-to-use instrument, with user-friendly GUI software. A desktop version with USB interface is available as an option.

With the optical pulse width of only 1 ns, the LOR-220 series are the first truly portable high-resolution OTDRs specially designed for short-range multi mode (MM) or single mode (SM) fiber assemblies, found for example in airplanes, ships, automotive, defense, and similar applications. The LOR-220 is based on Luciol’s novel patented scanning photon-counting technology. It is the highest-resolution instrument of this family and has industry-leading resolution and dead-zones (10 cm event dead-zone, 40 cm attenuation dead-zone). A large variety of wavelength options (520 to 1650 nm) as well as single- and dual-output versions are available, up to four different emitters can be integrated in a single module. The OTDR model LOR-220 POF is specially designed for testing large-core optical fibers such as 1 mm PMMA (POF) or others, providing a universal tool to characterize insertion losses and fiber attenuation. The LOR-220 POF is available on a custom basis for most large-core optical fibers and it has several wavelengths options. With the models LOR-220-U (single port) and LOR-220-UD (dual detector, dual port), Luciol Instruments offers a table-top packaging option that requires an external PC for control and operation. The LOR-220-UD OTDR can combine up to four wavelengths in the range of 500 to 1650 nm in one instrument. Both models are equipped with a standard USB port for convenient and easy connection to most Windows based PC and are ideal for test bench integration, laboratory environment OTDR testing and many more applications. Luciol has added several options to the LOR-220 series of high-resolution OTDRs: The Visual Fault Locator (VFL) option enables a blinking red laser, which is connected to the same connector as the OTDR itself. The user can switch from VFL to OTDR measurement directly in the software, without removing the connecting fiber. With access to the end of the fiber under test, the VFL can be used as a fiber identifier, to verify that the correct assembly is tested. This feature is especially useful for customers testing assemblies with multiple-fiber connectors with a probe. Please note that this VFL option is available only for the LOR-220 with 670 nm OTDR wavelength, the LOR-220 POF and the LOR-220-U/UD models. The Optical Power Meter (OPM) option is calibrated at 850, 1310, 1550 and 1610 nm. It covers power ranges of -50 to +8 dBm at 850 nm and -55 to +3 dBm at 1310 to 1610 nm. Please note that the OPM option is not available for the LOR-220-U/UD models. With the Fiber Microscope (FM, FSL) option, the user can verify the surface quality and cleanliness of all optical connectors before use. The surface is shown onto the LOR screen. It can be saved and printed for reference or reporting. Advanced software application is also available. Please note that the FM/FSL option is not available for the LOR-220 POF and LOR-220-U/UD models. Models designed for aviation applications are available.
