The AvaSpec SensLine series of spectrometers is Avantes’ response to customers who require higher performance for demanding spectroscopy applications such as fluorescence, luminescence and Raman. The AvaSpec SensLine series includes several high-sensitivity, low-noise spectrometers.
A number of these instruments feature back-thinned detector technology, of which some are Avantes’ high-performance, thermoelectrically cooled detectors. The other models feature standard CCDs, upgraded to high-performing instruments as a result of Avantes' unique detector cooling technology.
The back-thinned CCD detectors featured in the SensLine product family are high quantum efficiency detectors with excellent response in the ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) range from 200 to 1160 nm.
All AvaSpec SensLine instruments are fully integrated with Avantes' modular platform, allowing them to function as both stand-alone and multi-channel instruments. These products are fully compatible with other AvaSpec instruments from Avantes’ StarLine and NIRLine product families. Every instrument in the AvaSpec SensLine series is available as a lab instrument or an OEM module for integration into customers' existing systems.
Avantes' innovative ultra-low stray light (ULS), revolutionary high-sensitivity (HS) and the optimal compromise (HSC) optical benches are the core optical technologies in the AvaSpec SensLine. These highly stable optical benches combined with Avantes’ high-performance circuit boards deliver high-performing instruments at affordable prices.

The AvaSpec-HERO is built around Avantes’ High-Sensitivity, Compact (HSC), 100 mm optical bench offering a NA of 0.13 and a cooled, back-thinned detector (1024 x 58 pixels). Suitable for use with replaceable slits, this excellent instrument provides the ideal balance between sensitivity and resolution and the capability of using longer integration times in low-light applications, yet ensuring perfect signal-to-noise performance, transferred by the latest communication standards.
With its standard, uncooled, 2048 x 64 pixel, back-thinned detector, the AvaSpec-ULS2048x64-EVO spectrometer is perfect for less demanding applications in the UV and NIR range that require integration times lower than 2 s. This spectrometer comes with a wide range of slit sizes and gratings and can be configured with SMA or FC/PC fiber optic entrance connectors.
With its back-thinned, 2048 x 64 pixel detector with good sensitivity in the UV and IR region, the AvaSpec-ULS2048x64TEC-EVO enables catching as many photons as possible while the integrated TEC cooling allows long integration times (up to 120 s) with low noise levels. These features make this instrument ideally suited for measuring low-light applications, such as fluorescence or low-light Raman measurements.
For high-sensitivity applications where high resolution is not of paramount concern, the AvaSpec-HS2048XL-EVO is an exceptional instrument. Featuring Avantes’ HS optical bench, which has a full 0.22 numerical aperture for superior throughput, this spectrometer has a 14 x 500 µm back-thinned CCD detector with 2048 pixels.
The AvaSpec-ULS2048XL-EVO spectrometer combines exceptional quantum efficiency with high-speed communication. Unlike many back-thinned CCD spectrometers with two-dimensional arrays, the ULS2048XL-EVO has large monolithic pixels of 14 x 500 µm with exceptional efficiency in the UV (200 to 400 nm) and NIR (950 to 1160 nm) ranges. The instrument also has an electronic shutter enabling integration times as low as 2 µs.
Avantes’ AvaSpec-ULS2048LTEC spectrometers are equipped with a triple-stage thermoelectrically (TEC) cooling, keeping the detector at an optimal +5 °C (maximum -35 °C difference from ambient temperature). The detector cooling provides a significantly lower and more stable dark baseline and PRNU level, dark noise is reduced by a factor of 2 to 3. Thus, the ULS2048LTEC can be used in very low light conditions, such as fluorescence and Raman measurements. Integration times of more than 5 s are possible.
The AvaSpec-ULS2048x16 is the best option when looking for a cost-effective, highly sensitive spectrometer. The back-thinned detector features a SNR of 500:1 and a quantum efficiency of up to 78%. Options include a filter to reduce second-order effects and purge ports for deep-UV measurements. The AvaSpec-ULS2048x16 comes with a wide range of slit sizes, gratings and may be configured with SMA or FC/PC fiber optic entrance connectors.
Sometimes a single channel spectrometer is not enough, for example when you want higher resolution or to perform two redundant measurements at the same time. The AvaSpec dual channel spectrometers are designed specifically for this purpose. Each spectrometer can be configured independently. It is also possible to have different detector types in each channel. Please contact AMS Technologies to configure the perfect solution for your application.
Avantes offers a wide range of cables to connect your AvaSpec spectrometer to an AvaLight series light source or one of Avantes’ many accessories like fiber optic switches, AvaTrigger, etc.
