Swept Light Sources

Product information "Swept Light Sources"

Littman-Metcalf Configuration; Center Wavelength 1310 to 1330 nm; Wavelength Span >100 nm; Energy ≥17 mW; Coherence Length >7 mm

NTT Advanced Technology’s 200 kHz swept light source for OCT imaging is currently the highest speed swept-wavelength light source in the world. Emitting wavelengths in the 1.3 μm band, the swept light source is ideally suited for OCT-based examination of the coronary arteries.

The device accelerates image acquisition and as a result reduces diagnosis time. This reduction in diagnosis time contributes to a great reduction of both the physical and the psychological impact on patients.

The total system cost can be reduced because the load on the image processing system is reduced and the linear frequency sweeping enables easy calculation of the relationship between time and wavelength.

The swept-wavelength light source with a KTN deflector is aiming at the usage in phase sensitive OCT systems (Doppler OCT and PS OCT: applications to new OCT diagnosis methods) because of its lower jitter than that of the more generally used MEMS-based light sources.

Core building block of the wavelength swept light source is a laser with an external resonator, the so-called Littman-Metcalf configuration. By optimizing the laser with a highly efficient diffraction grating and KTN light deflectors into a compact structure, high-speed operation, a wider wavelength sweep span, and sufficient coherence length are realized.

Chromacity Auskerry/Haskeir Tunable IR Laser Sources / OPOs
1.4-12 µm; Output Power 20-850 mW; Repetition Frequency 100, 200 MHz; Pulse Duration 1-5 ps; Beam Diameter 1-6 mm Chromacity has developed a range of tunable laser sources which span the short to long IR wavelength regions. The Chromacity Auskerry (formerly the Near-IR OPO) is Chromacity’s flagship tunable optical parametric oscillator (OPO) which generates light across 1.4 µm – 4.2 µm (7150 cm-1– 2400 cm-1). The Chromacity Auskerry tunable laser source can be integrated into an FTIR spectrometer, providing the ability to interrogate multiple chemical signatures in real time (at a high resolution). It has a broad bandwidth across the 3µm-3.5µm to quantify gases such as of methane, ethane and benzene in a single measurement with resolutions of 0.05cm-1. The high powers of the Chromacity Auskerry have demonstrated open-path stand-off detection measurements beyond 100m. The Chromacity Haskeir (formerly the Mid-IR OPO) is powered by a new generation of non-linear crystals which generate broad bandwidth coherent light across the long wavelength regions between 4.5 µm and 12 µm (2200 cm-1 to 850 cm-1). Spectroscopy across the fingerprint regime provides that ability to characterize volatile organic compounds with complex chemical signatures, and the high brightness of the Chromacity Haskeir OPO across 4.5 to 12µm can be used in a number of these set-ups. It can also be used to characterize and differentiate between compounds, such as VX and Sarin, as well as pharmaceutical powders such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Both picosecond OPOs deliver high power, broad band coherent light and are optically pumped by Chromacity’s high-power Chromacity 1040 femtosecond laser, which is fully integrated into the optical head to maximize stability and reduce the overall system footprint. Fiber delivery capability reinforces the inherent stability of Chromacity’s OPO systems and seamless OEM integration for industrial applications. Chromacity is the first laser manufacturer to remotely install ultrafast OPOs. Patent protected manufacturing and design processes have driven Chromacity to build truly robust and affordable OPO systems with drop-ship capability and plug & play functionality. With a wealth of expertise in optical parametric oscillator technology, non-linear optics and optical fiber delivery, the Chromacity team are able to consider a wide range of options to help meet your requirements. TETRA DPSS Lasers
Four wavelengths: 532 nm, 555 nm, 579 nm, 606 nm; pulse-by-pulse switchable with 2 kHz; Pulse Energy 20 µJ; Pulse Length <5 ns The diode-pumped solid-state laser TETRA emits very short laser pulses (< 5 ns) of high energy (up to 20 µJ) with four wavelengths in the visible range, which are particularly suitable for multispectral photoacoustic imaging. Using sophisticated technology, the TETRA laser can switch from pulse to pulse between these four wavelengths with a very high pulse repetition frequency of 2 kHz. Utilizing the Raman effect and the light of a 532 nm pump laser, the TETRA laser additionally generates the wavelengths 555 nm, 579 nm and 606 nm. A tunable optical filter separates the four wavelengths and routes one wavelength at a time to the optical output of the unit at a switching frequency of up to 2 kHz. This makes TETRA about ten times faster than tunable lasers based on OPOs (Optical Parametric Oscillators) – typical frequencies of such OPO systems range from 100 Hz to 200 Hz – while also being considerably more cost-effective. The wavelengths emitted by TETRA are well matched to the absorption curves of many blood components, making the laser particularly suitable for photoacoustic tomography in biomedicine. We have equipped TETRA with a number of features to meet the requirements of medical safety standards for use in clinical environments. For instance a fast, fault-tolerant shutter at the laser output interrupts the beam in the event of a fault in the shortest possible time in order to avoid any hazards to a patient.
