OZ Optics’ LPCA series of collimator/focuser array assemblies assist in developing next generation photonic devices. The arrays are manufactured using precision V-Groove technology in conjunction with single-element lens arrays, enabling sub-micron alignment accuracy.

OZ Optics fiber collimators and focusers are designed to collimate or focus light exiting a fiber to a desired beam diameter or spot size. By utilizing diffraction limited lenses, spot sizes of a few microns can be achieved. These devices can be used with photonic integrated circuits (PIC), arranged wave guides (AWG), and other fiber optic devices. Collimators and focusers can be used as matched pairs to couple light in and out of optical devices. This makes them ideal for dense fiber packaging devices.

OZ Optics’ LPCA precision fiber optic collimator/focuser array assemblies are available with single mode (SM) or polarization maintaining (PM) fibers. Customization can even include different types of fibers assembled into a single array. PM fibers offer a means to control the polarization of optical signals throughout the system thus minimizing polarization dependent losses (PDL) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effects. This control is crucial in developing next generation coherent detection systems. OZ Optics can also use customer supplied fibers to build devices.

Standard PANDA style PM arrays are manufactured with the polarization axis (stress rods) aligned vertical to the V-Groove base within 3°. High grade assemblies with one to eight channels can be provided with the stress rods aligned to 1°. Arrays can also be provided with the fibers aligned parallel to the base, alternating axes or at custom angles. When supplied with a breakout and connectors, the alignment of the connector is also to the slow axis, within 3° for standard connectors or available to within 1.5° for high grade connectors.

The LPCA collimator/foucser array assemblies can be manufactured with a hermetic feedthrough attached. This enables the development of multichannel photonic devices capable of meeting Telcordia requirements. Fiber breakouts can also be added, to convert ribbonized fibers into separated fibers, capable of being connectorized.

DCC-010-005 Direct-Coupling Collimators
SMA Connector; 185-2100 nm; Focal Length 10 mm; Clear Aperture 5 mm; f# 2; Numerical Aperture 0.24 Mightex’s DCC-010-005 series of direct-coupling collimators are used to either coupling light from free space into a spectrometer or collimating light from a point light source to form a collimated (parallel) optical beam. Direct-coupling collimators are key components with numerous applications. For example, in spectroscopy, a direct coupling collimator can collect light in a narrow field of view into a spectrometer. In another example one collimator is connected to a point light source and the collimated beam passes through a cuvette. On the other side of the cuvette a second collimator couples light directly into a spectrometer. To maximize transmission wavelength range, Mightex DCC-010-005 direct-coupling collimators feature a single BK7 (DCC-010-005-V, 350 to 2000 nm) or UV fused silica lens (DCC-010-005-U, 185 to 2100 nm) without optical coating. The DCC-010-005 series collimator housing is machined from aluminium alloy for maximum durability. The collimators feature an internal SMA thread for direct connecting to spectrometers with popular SMA input ports When installed on a spectrometer, the full field of view (FOV) or full divergence angle can be calculated as FOV = 2atan(W/2f) where W is the width of the entrance slit of the spectrometer and f is the focal length of the lens.
