Adhesives for Fiber Array Assemblies

Viscosity 70->20,000 mPas; Shear Bond Strength > 69->200 kgf/cm²; Bending Adhesion Strength 9-25 kgf/cm²; UV Curing Conditions 10-100 mW/cm², 5, 10 min; Colour Light Yellow, Colourless, White; Tg +42-+219 °C NTT-AT’s series of adhesives for fiber array assemblies feature high moisture resistance and excellent workability for v-groove fixing or optical fiber fixing. Fiber arrays are used for the input and output of optical waveguide devices. NTT-AT’s AT3925M, AT9390, AT9968, AT3727E and AT3728E epoxy-based optical adhesives are used for fixing the v-grooves and have realized price reductions while enhancing moisture resistance compared to conventional products. These adhesives can be polished after assembly. NTT-AT’s AT9575M (epoxy) and AT8105 (acrylate) adhesives for optical fiber fixing have gained popularity for their good workability as non-fluid adhesives. NTT-AT has executed durability tests that have shown no peeling of a fiber array after 2,000 hours at +85 °C and 85% of humidity. With viscosities that are appropriate for the usage location, the adhesives for fiber array assemblies are easy to use. While the adhesives for fixing v-grooves show fluidity, the optical fiber fixing adhesives’ consistency is that of a paste, suitable for protecting the fiber. Adhesives for Optical Waveguides

Try NTT-AT’s series of adhesives for optical waveguides! Within this series you find acrylate-based adhesives (AT6001, AT8224)with excellent durability that have cleared a large number of reliability tests. Epoxy adhesives are also part of this series, with a refractive index that can be accurately controlled within a range of 1.456 to 1.567 (±0.005, Na-D) – or with a fixed refractive index that is the same as quartz to deliver low reflectance (GA700L, GA700H). UV curing of the adhesives for optical waveguides allows for adhesion in a short time frame and makes alignment easy. The adhesives withstand a solder reflow process for Si Photonics (+260 °C). ADS Final Polishing Films

NTT Advanced Technology’s ADS series of final polishing films is ideal for the final polish of optical connector end faces and offers longer polishing life cycles. These films polish the end face of an optical connector without scratches, residues or contamination on the ferrule end face. ADS-NEXT polishing films feature stable polishing force while maintaining final finish performance and achieving an extended life-span. This series of final polishing films attains a high-performance polish with distilled water. Another feature of the ADS-NEXT series is a sharp improvement in the indentation problems that occur especially in 1.25 mm diameter ferrules from repeated use polishing. Even after many usages, ADS-NEXT can still protect against sudden occurrences of fiber indentation. ADS-MPO series is a new generation of polishing films that has been improved for MPO connector end faces to realize a finishing quality equivalent to that of single fiber polish, leaving no scratches or dirt while at the same time their stable polishing power ensures long life. These films can polish to a convex shape to eliminate dips in the core (Coredip value of “0”) which particularly affects the optical characteristics (IL/RL) of multi mode fiber. CMH Ceramic Micro Heaters

Max. Powered by AC current with a power of approximately 100 W, a tubular ceramic micro-heating element with an internal diameter of 2 mm generates these high temperatures over a length of 19 (CMH-7019) or 22 mm (CMH-7022). In order to focus the heating energy in this small volume and to minimize the losses to the environment, the actual heating element is enclosed in a very high heat resistant ceramic material. An approx. 1 mm wide gap in this material on one side makes the laterally open, tubular heating element accessible from the outside. The main application of ceramic micro heaters is the processing of optical fibers, which can be inserted into the ceramic micro heater through the lateral gap. Tapering of optical fibers, for example, involves heating a small area of the fiber to a high temperature while the fiber is gently stretched as evenly as possible. This procedure reduces the diameter of fiber and core in the heated area, resulting in a tapered fiber. Another application of ceramic micro heaters is the production of fiber couplers.
