Sercalo Microtechnology’s TF and TFS series of tunable optical filters are based on MEMS technology and are designed for ITU O, C and L band with 50 GHz or 100 GHz channel spacing (TFS series C band / 100 GHz channel spacing only).

The series’ highly reliable tuning mechanism uses an integrated micro-mirror to select the central wavelength of the filter. TF and TFS series tunable filters are composed by an optical system where light coming from the input fiber is collimated on a fused silica grating. The grating diffracts the incoming light into its spectrum with a distinct angle for each wavelength.

A MEMS mirror reflects the light onto the output collimator, which only couples the filtered spectrum into the output fiber. By modifying the mirror tilt angle, the user can choose the wavelength of the filter. Switching time is below 50 ms, insertion loss is below 3 dB and full width half maximum can be either 0.3, 0.5 or 0.6 nm.

Sercalo Microtechnology’s TF series’ small standard package withstands rugged environments and the optical engine is optimized for very low size (the body without fiber sleeve only measures 14.6 x 11.2 x 9.1 mm) and well suited for direct mounting on printed circuit boards. An interface board with UART and I2C/SMBus is also available. Applications range from simple hand-held spectrometers to tunable receivers. The component is compliant to Telcordia 1221 reliability standards and ROHS requirements 2015/863/EU.

Sercalo Microtechnology’s TFS series’ miniature package with a size of only 19 x 7.6 x 5.9 mm (including fiber sleeve) is ideal for applications requiring reduced size and weight. TFS series filters continuously tune from 1530 to 1570 nm with a voltage from 0 to 40 V. The component is designed to conform to Telcordia 1221 reliability standards.

In the BTF-11 series of variable bandwidth tunable filters, each filter is independently rotated relative to the incoming light, in order to change the passband. OZ Optics uses a special technique to minimize polarization dependencies, allowing PDL effects to be kept below 0.3 dB, and making the spectral response virtually polarization independent. This feature makes the BTF-11 series ideal for today’s DWDM system applications. Variable bandwidth tunable filters using single mode (SM) and polarization maintaining (PM) fibers are offered. In general, OZ Optics uses polarization maintaining fibers based on the PANDA fiber structure when building polarization maintaining components and patch cords. LOR-200 OTDRs
400-1650 nm; Pulse Width 2-1,000 ns; Measurement Range ≤160 km; Fiber Type SM, MM; Connector Type FC, SC, ST – APC or PC Luciol Instruments’ LOR-200 series is a family of fully portable, stand-alone high-resolution OTDRs based on Luciol’s patented scanning photon-counting technology. The instruments are integrated in a Windows-based PC platform with touchscreen interface, achieve a superior dynamic range and allow high-resolution fiber characterization up to a total distance range of 160 km. Optimized for telecom wavelengths, typically from 1000 to 1650 nm, the LOR-200 OTDRs feature industry-leading resolution, distinguishing events with 20 cm separation, and a 50 cm attenuation dead-zone. Their unique dynamic range for short pulse lengths (up to 15 dB for 2 ns pulses) enables to see through optical splitters, even over very short distances. TF-100 Digital Tunable Filters

This series of digital tunable filters are handheld units with a keypad, display and computer interface. The devices allow to control the wavelength at which the filter transmits work by adjusting the angle of incidence between the filter and the incident beam. The TF-100 series digital tunable filters are calibrated such that the user directly enters the wavelength to transmit via the keypad or remotely, through the computer interface. A USB interface with cable is standard. Filter linewidths are normally defined in terms of full width at half maximum (FWHM). The standard filters used have a smooth, rounded transmission spectrum that is the result of a single Fabry Perot type cavity, simply made up of two reflectors separated by a fixed spacer of some thickness. Other filter designs are available. For instance, flat top bandpass filters are made by stacking multiple cavities together. By increasing the number of cavities one can increase the roll-off slope therefore improving the out-of-band rejection level.
