Product Portfolio
Fiber optic connectors have become a highly standardized industrial product that needs to perform within certain limits in order to ensure unrestricted compatibility between various manufacturers. AMS Technologies provides solutions for the majority of measurement tasks within this industrial sector.
Measurement of Concentricity and Protrusion
Concentricity is the core parameter in order to achieve low loss between optical connectors. Proper measurement of concentricity allows connectors to be matched and thus minimise the connection loss. Our modular concentricity measurement system allows to measure fiber or ferrule concentricity using different mechanical modules. We can also provide instruments for batch measuring the ferrule protrusion of 2.5 mm and 1.25 mm ferrule PC style connectors.
Measurement of Insertion and Return Loss
Optical connectors are mainly characterized by their transmission and their return loss. Fiber optic loss test sets comprise optical light sources at specific wavelengths in combination with a compatible optical power meter and are mainly used in telecom/datacom applications for measurement of insertion and/or return loss. Handheld optical loss test sets enable installers and technicians to work fiber smartly by integrating industry-leading fiber inspection with Tier 1 testing. Pocket-sized and rugged dual- and quad-wavelength optical test kits provide essential tools for power and insertion loss measurements.
The handheld, two-way loss test set for both single mode (SM) and multi mode (MM) fiber with length and ORL measurement is the ideal solution for ultra-high fiber count tier 1 loss and length testing applications. Fiber optical return loss meters combine light source, power meter, continuous wave return loss meter and connector inspection in one versatile and compact instrument. Benchtop insertion and return loss test solutions target single fiber connector applications in the lab and in manufacturing. A further series of benchtop devices provides single mode insertion/return loss test meters and fully EF-compliant multi mode insertion loss test modules.
Variable Attenuators
Handheld fiber optic variable attenuators are precision instruments commonly used for testing optical system margin, linearity and sensitivity of optical transmission equipment. Compact, handheld and rugged digital attenuators feature low insertion loss, low backreflection, low PDL, flat wavelength response and can be calibrated for up to four wavelengths, for C or L bands. Handheld optical level attenuators are suitable for fiber system testing as well as installation, maintenance, and production of multi mode and single mode fibers, available also with integrated power meter, automatically providing a stable output level.
Measurement of Reflection, Extinction Ratio and Fiber Length
Digital variable reflectors enable the user to generate a known level of return loss to evaluate system response – for instance with our series of backreflection meters measuring the total accumulated optical return loss that is reflected back through a device or fiber. Polarization exctinction ratio meters are available as handheld or benchtop systems, allowing quick measurements of the output extinction ratio of light from a fiber. Optical fiber length meters deliver fast, accurate and reliable measurements of a single mode or multi mode optical fiber’s length and can be used for any application requiring low fiber length variation.
Fiber Identification, Channel Checking
The compact, rugged, easy to use optical fiber identifiers can be used to identify optical test tones, live traffic and optical power levels in single mode fiber. The handheld, battery-operated CWDM or DWDM channel checkers are ideal for field service groups tasked with the installation, maintenance and upgrades of CWDM/DWDM systems. They scan the CWDM/DWDM system and automatically record all channels with the wavelength and related power level.
Multitest and Multiple-application Platforms, Optical Mainframes
Scalable, compact and lightweight multitest platforms are designed for all phases of network lifecycle from the installation to the maintenance of fiber networks. Modular in design, these platforms can be extended with capabilities like an optical spectrum analyzer.
For even more complex measurement tasks, AMS Technologies provides modular, multiple-application, optical test and measurement platforms optimized for compact cost-effective development and manufacturing of optical communications technology. These optical mainframe platforms are available with two or up to eight slots accepting a wide range of measurement modules like optical switches, tunable filters, passive optics, variable optical attenuators, multi-wavelength meters, optical spectrum analyzers, EDFAs or fiber polarization controllers.
