BM Backreflection Meters

Product information "BM Backreflection Meters"

Single and Dual Source; 633-1625 nm; Reflectance Dynamic Range -1--70 dB; Fiber Type SM, MM; 8° Angled NTT-FC/APC Receptacle

OZ Optics’ BM series of backreflection meters measure the total accumulated optical return loss that is reflected back through a device or fiber under test. The measured reflections are caused by Rayleigh scattering, sudden changes in the refractive index within the device under test (DUT), or from connector ends. BM series meters are available as portable handheld devices (BM-100 and BM-200) or in a benchtop form factor (BM-1000 and BM-2000).

The BM series backreflection meters are configured with an FC/APC connector on the output port, to minimize unwanted reflections. The meters have either one or two built-in laser diodes (plus a choice of SLEDs or LEDs for benchtop models) for return loss measurement at specific wavelengths. An optional detector can be added to the unit for insertion loss measurements. Reference patchcords for calibration are available.

BM series meters cover a wide range of available wavelengths, thus providing measurement  capabilities for non-telecom applications as well as telecom. BM-100/200 portable meters' wavelengths range from 8050 nm to 1625 nm, while the BM-1000/2000 benchtop meters are offered with special wavelengths, ranging from 633 nm to 1625 nm.

The BM-1000/2000 benchtop backreflection meters feature a colour touchscreen display with a simple graphical user interface. The units come with a built-in memory that allows the user to store measured DUT test results.

The BM series backreflection meters can be operated remotely via the built-in USB interface. A universal AC/DC power supply is included with all units. Reference patch cords for calibration are available. Adapter patch cords are also available, to allow the meter to be used with devices having different connectors.

OPM-200 Digital Directional Inline Optical Power Monitor/Meter
1250 to 1620 nm; Tap Ratio 1%; Return Loss 70 dB; Dynamic Range -32-+20 dBm; Directivity 35 dB; Fiber Type SM, PM; Connector FC/UPC As part of its series of inline optical power monitors and tap couplers, OZ Optics offers the OPM-200, a digital inline optical power monitor. Based on a groundbreaking, patented fabrication process, these all-fiber taps and monitors provide a way to easily measure the average signal intensity through an optical fiber via tapped light channeled into a built-in photodiode, without interrupting the traffic. The photodiode produces a signal proportional to the optical power traveling through the fiber with high directivity. The OPM-200 power monitor integrates a novel inline optical tap with a low-noise InGaAs detector in combination with a high dynamic range logarithmic amplifier. The built-in microcontroller processes and displays the power transmitted through the selected fiber channel on an LCD display. The optical tap modules and display units are independently calibrated, so any display unit can be plugged into any tap module, and the measured power will be automatically calibrated. A low-voltage circuitry design ensures a long lifetime for the built-in battery. The detector module can be calibrated for either a single wavelength or for a broad wavelength range. Optional, RS-232 and analog outputs are also available. The OPM-200 inline power monitor is ideal for network monitoring, out of specification alarms, and/or DWDM systems for real time monitoring and feedback. OZ Optics’ inline taps are highly directional and ideal for monitoring traffic traveling in one direction only. They may also be used for measuring return losses instead of transmitted power. In the same product family, OZ Optics now provides OEM single channel optical power monitors and can offer multi-channel power monitors for DWDM system integration on demand. Duo-lateral Position Sensing Detectors
OSI Optoelectronics’ super linear duo-lateral position sensing detectors (PSDs) feature state of the art duo-lateral technology to provide a continuous analog output proportional to the displacement of the centroid of a light spot from the center, on the active area. As continuous position sensors, these detectors are unparalleled, offering position accuracies of 99% over 64% of the sensing area. These accuracies are achieved by duo-lateral technology, manufacturing the detectors with two separate resistive layers, one located on the top and the other at the bottom of the chip. One- or two-dimensional position measurements can be obtained using these sensors. A reverse bias should be applied to these detectors to achieve optimum current linearity at high light levels. The maximum recommended power density incident on the duo-lateral PSDs is 1 mW/cm2. For optimum performance, the incident beam should be perpendicular to the active area, with a spot diameter of less than 1 mm. Key Features: Duo Lateral Structure One-dimensional (SL Variants) and Two-dimensional (DL, DLS Variants) Versions High Speed Response Super Linear Ultra High Position Accuracy: Up to 99% Low Capacitance Low Dark Current Wide Dynamic Range High Reliability Metal or Ceramic Package Applications: Pulse Detectors; Optical Communications; Bar Code Readers; Optical Remote Control; Medical Equipment; High-speed Photometry; Beam Alignment; Position Sensing; Angle Measurement; Surface Profiling; Height Measurements; Targeting; Guidance Systems; Motion Analysis
