Norland Optical Adhesive 83H ("NOA83H") is a single component liquid adhesive that cures in seconds to a tough, hard polymer when exposed to ultraviolet light. It is recommended as an extremely fast and efficient way to precisely bondoptical components. In addition to UV light, heat can also be usedto cure this one part adhesive.

The outstanding characteristic of this material is its extremely fast cure. Thin films can be initially set in under 10 seconds and thick films in 20 seconds using the light sources listed below. It is also extremely stable when not exposed to UV light. NOA 83H will not gel up in dispenser tips or cure before you want it to.

A voltage between 0 and 6.5 V on the drive pin sets the optical attenuation. When power is removed, the VOA returns into its default state. There are two variants available with different default states: normally open (bright) or high attenuation (dark). The dark variant has better linearity and is used in applications where the light is cut at power off. The mVOA series is designed to conform to Telcordia 1221 reliability standards. No epoxy is present in the optical path. The optical collimator is assembled using laser welding techniques which results in long term stability and excellent reliability. The components withstand rugged environments and can directly be mounted on printed circuit boards. Refractive Index 1.3825; 5600 cps Viscosity at 25°C Norland Optical Adhesive 13825 is clear liquid adhesive that will cure when exposed long wavelength ultraviolet light. NOA 13825 is recommended for bonding for glass to glass. Adhesion is also good to cellulose acetate butyrate. NOA 13825 is cured by ultraviolet or visible light between 315 to 450 nm. Full cure requires 6 Joules/cm 2 . The adhesive exhibits oxygen inhibition when used as a coating. To overcome this the adhesive must be cured under an inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen. Keep NOA 13825 in a cool(5-22°C) dark place. If refrigerated, allow the adhesive to come to room temperature before using.
