Product Portfolio
For collimation or focusing tasks, a very broad and complete line of fiber optic components is available from AMS Technologies for coupling light into and out of optical fibers. Depending on the fiber’s core and cladding diameter and the required optical performance, you can choose from a wide range of sizes from micro- to large-beam versions.
A complete series of pigtail- as well as receptacle-style fiber collimators and focusers with low back reflection and diffraction-limited lenses is available, exhibiting high throughput and high optical performance, for example with focal spot sizes down to a few microns or a well collimated beam with a defined diameter between 0.2 and 22 mm.
We carry a series of dedicated pigtail-style collimators for polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, covering a wavelength range from 630 to 1550 nm. Further pigtail-style collimators are available for single mode (SM) or polarization maintaining (PM) fibers and wavelengths from 450 to 2000 nm.
A series of receptacle-style collimators and corresponding screw-on focusers with BK-7 or silica lenses in ruggedized aluminium packages is available in micro, mid-size and macro form factors, with focal lengths ranging from 10 to 76 mm and suitable for single mode (SM) and multi mode (MM) fibers with SMA905, FC or ST connectors.
Receptacle-style collimators comprising of precision molded aspheric lenses pre-aligned for use with fiber patch cords are also available, assembled into ruggedized stainless steel housings with receptacles for FC/PC, FC/APC or SMA fiber optic connectors. These collimators produce beam diameters from 0.7 to 4.02 mm and are suitable for wavelengths between 405 and 1550 nm.

Beyond collimators and focusers, further fiber components are available like light to fiber couplers/collimators, fiber connectors, mating sleeves and adapters, fiber WDMs, combiners, splitters and couplers, fiber amplifiers, attenuators and polarization controllers, as well as fiber optic circulators, delay lines, filters, isolators, switches and other fiber optic assemblies.
Our portfolio of precision optics includes optical lenses, optics assemblies, optical filters, optical prisms, optical mirrors, optical beamsplitters, etalons, optical gratings, optical isolators, optical attenuators and polarization optics as well as optical scanners and deflectors or optical modulators, q-switches and pockels cells.
For mounting, adjusting and moving our optical components with high precision, we carry an array of optomechanics and motion control such as optical mounts, rotary and translation stages plus motion controllers as well as optical tables, breadboards and platforms.
Definition
A collimator is used to collimate light from a divergent source (here: an optical fiber’s end face) into an approximately parallel light beam with a desired beam diameter, while focusers collimate the divergent light into a desired spot size in a specific distance. The diameter of a collimated beam is given by the formula Db = 2*f*NA; where Db = beam diameter in mm, f = lens focal length in mm, NA = fiber numerical aperture.
While pigtail-style collimators and focusers are permanently connected to the optical fiber by the manufacturer, receptacle-style components with plug terminals for a variety of optical connectors allow for a user-detachable fiber connection.
Applications: Collimators and focusers can be used to couple light to/from lasers, laser diodes, acousto-optic devices, photodiodes and other fiber optic devices, where a specific output is needed. Collimators and focusers can be used as matched pairs to couple light in and out of optical devices, ideal for fiber packaging applications.
