DC/DC Converters available from Stock
AMS Technologies offers a broad range of professional, very compact, high voltage DC/DC converters in modular form primarily for PCB mounting. Encompassing several different package forms, these modules start at 100 V output types of just over 1 cm3 in size and reach all the way to 6 kV output versions with 4 W output power.
Many optical applications, such as APDs and Pockels cell drivers, as well as industrial capacitor charging applications require this feature set of high voltage and low power. These DC/DC converter modules can either be operated with a fixed voltage output, or the output voltage can be modulated via an analog input voltage.
Within its portfolio, AMS Technologies supplies the smallest regulated DC/DC power supply for APDs and MPPCs that need a bias voltage ranging from 0 to 100 V. Highly compact modules with output voltages of up to 500 VDC are also available, designed for applications like APDs, laser range finders, fiber optic telecommunications and particle physics, where space is an important factor to achieve greater quantum efficiency and reduced total leakage current.
Our series of isolated single- and dual-output high voltage power modules with high efficiency is designed for flat mounting, micro-size and lightweight. These modules provide output voltages up to 4 kV proportional to the input voltage, isolation up to 500 VDC and various protection and monitoring features.
Regulated high voltage DC/DC converters with adjustable output are ideal solutions for PMTs and other devices that need a bias voltage ranging from 0 to 1.5 kV, with very low current. This series is available for flat PCB mounting or with a smaller footprint but more height, designed to be mounted vertically onto the PCB.
For operation with unregulated supplies such as batteries, solar cells, etc. as well as for systems with versatile sources of power, AMS Technologies provides a series of high voltage DC/DC converters with an exceptional wide input voltage range, also available for flat or raised mounting onto the PCB.
For even higher output voltages, two series of PCB-mount, ultra-compact, regulated, high voltage DC/DC converters with up to 4 kV output voltage at up to 4 W and up to 6 kV at up to 6 W are available that are particularly adapted to controlling photonic detectors that need high bias voltages and currents. These series feature excellent voltage regulation and reduced residual ripple.
Applications
Typical applications for our broad range of high voltage DC/DC converters in modular form are mainly in the field of photonics (such as photomultiplier tubes, flash lamps, avalanche photodiodes, focusing optics or gas chromatography) but also include electro chuck, inkjet printing or spectrometers.

Definition
DC/DC converters are electronic units that convert an input DC voltage into a lower or higher DC voltage of the same or inverted polarity and provide this voltage at the converter’s output. In the circuit, this conversion is carried out by a periodically activated electronic switch in combination with one or more storage elements for electrical energy.
Beyond voltage conversion, many switched DC/DC converters take on additional functions such as power factor correction (PFC) or filtering, especially in high-power applications. In addition to open PCB versions with discrete components, DC/DC converters are also offered as fully encapsulated modules, which are often also suitable for direct mounting on printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Such encapsulated modules are available both uninsulated and with galvanic isolation between input and output suitable for isolation voltages in the kV range. DC/DC converters for high output voltages are sometimes also called transverters.
