Definition
Optical amplifiers are used to boost the power and efficiency of optical signals, for example in telecommunications, laser systems, and sensing applications. Optical amplifiers use materials that amplify light signals, such as doped fibers or semiconductors, to boost signal strength without the need for conversion to electrical signals. This preserves signal integrity and enables long-distance transmission as well as improved performance in various optical systems.
