Wavelength Electronics’ WLD33ND series of component type general-purpose laser diode drivers are easy-to-use analog circuits for space constrained laser diode applications. WLD33ND laser diode drivers maintain precision laser diode current (Constant Current mode) or stable photodiode current (Constant Power mode) using electronics that are compatible with any laser diode type.

The WLD33ND series is the new version of the discontinued WLD3343 series of laser diode drivers.

There are five laser diode driver models available in the WLD33ND series. While the standard WLD33ND provides up to 2.2 A to the laser diode, the WLD33ND-3A version provides up to 3 A. WLD33ND-2L and WLD33ND-3L are lower noise versions for constant current mode of the 2.2 and 3 A models, respectively. The WLD33ND-HB is designed to operate with lower voltage supplies, including 3.6 V for lithium-ion batteries.

The WLD33ND series delays and slowly ramps the current for maximum protection. Safely supply up to 3 A of current (model dependent) to a laser diode from a single +5 V power supply. An internal thermostat shuts down the WLD33ND safely if the device temperature exceeds +105 °C. Heatsinking solutions to use the WLD33ND at full current are available. Remotely enable or disable current. Zero leakage current allows operation with VCSELs. Current range is scaled by an external resistor.

Use the WLD33ND-EV Evaluation Board to rapidly prototype a complete laser diode control system with the WLD33ND laser diode driver. Onboard switches, connectors, and trimpots make the configuration and operation simple. Input and output cables are also included with the WLD33ND-EV.
