Non-latching; 1x2 to 1x32; Fiber Type SM, MM; 1240 to 1640 nm; Insertion Loss 0.5 to 2.5 dB; Crosstalk 60 dB; Switching Time 1 to 20 ms

Sercalo Microtechnology’s SW series are very fast, opto-mechanical switches based on the MEMS technology. These non-latching MEMS switches available both for single mode (SM) and multi mode (MM) fibers in 1x2, 1x4, 1x8, 1x13, 1x16, 1x32 and 2x2 configurations.

All SW series 1xN components are designed to establish an optical connection between one optical port and either one of up to 32 input or output lines in a very short time, while the 2x2 variants are designed for optical cross connect switching in single mode (SM) or multi mode (MM) fiber networks.

Powered by a 5 VDC supply voltage, the SW series switches allow to control the switching state with a 5 V TTL or CMOS drive signal. The switching mechanism offers the reliability of a solid state device; it neither wears out nor degrades over time. Even after billions of cycles the switching quality stays constant.

The SW series’ highly reliable switching mechanism uses integrated micromirrors, features fast switching times down to below 1 ms for some models and shows only 0.5 to 2.5 dB insertion loss.

With its MEMS switching structure, the SM series of fiber optic MEMS switches achieves repeatability of 0.001 dB and shows a very flat insertion loss over the full spectrum of the fiber. The miniature package withstands rugged environments and is well suited for direct mounting on printed circuit boards. The SM switch series is qualified according to Telcordia GR 1221 and mainly used in test and measurement applications.

SL Series Fiber Optic MEMS Switches
Latching; 1x2 to 1x16; Fiber Type SM, MM, PM; 1240 to 1640 nm; Insertion Loss 0.5 to 1.6 dB; Crosstalk 60 dB; Switching Time 1 to 10 ms Sercalo Microtechnology’s SL series are fast, latching opto-mechanical MEMS switches for the most demanding applications in fiber optic communication networks. They maintain the last switching state after power is removed and are available in configurations 1x2, 2x2, 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16 with a variety of driver options and a capacitive position sensor (SLTS variants). SL series switches are the best choice where highest reliability and self test capability are required. The SL series’ highly reliable switching mechanism uses integrated micro-mirrors that can be moved in or out of the optical path by electrostatic actuation. This latching mechanism offers the best repeatability and long term stability, has a very fast response time down to below 1 ms for some models and only 0.5 to 1.6 dB insertion loss. The underlying MEMS technology permits to obtain low insertion loss combined with high crosstalk between channels. With their miniature package, withstanding rugged environments and well suited for direct mounting on printed circuit boards, the SL series switches offer solid state reliability, accurate precision and fast response time and are qualified according to Telcordia GR 1221. Powered by a voltage between 4.0 and 5.25 VDC on the supply pin, the LS series switch’s state is selected with a CMOS or TTL signal on the selector pins. A high pulse during at least 2 ms on one of the selector pins toggles the switch into either cross state or bar state. At 0 V on the selector pins or at power off, the switch remains in the last selected state. The switching mechanism offers the reliability of a solid state device; it neither wears out nor degrades over time. Even after billions of cycles the switching quality stays constant. 1x8 and 1x16 models communicate over a UART interface with TTL or RS-232 voltage levels and over a secondary SMBus/I2C or USB interface. Latching; 1x1, 2x1, 2x2; Fiber Type SM, MM; 600 to 1700 nm; Insertion Loss 1.0 dB; Crosstalk 60 dB; Switching Time 2 to 10 ms Sercalo Microstechnology’s SXLA series are latching type fiber optic MEMS switches for telecom and test and measurement applications. The single mode SXLA series achieves excellent repeatability and reliability and meets Telcordia 1221 quality standards. The SXLA series are miniature opto-mechanical switches for fiber optic communication systems and submodules, available in latching variants, with 1x1, 2x1, 2x2 configurations. The SXLA series offers smallest size, ease of integration and the established reliability of Sercalo Microtechnology’s MEMS components. The package is one of the smallest in the industry. It is optimized for low cost production while maintaining high reliability. In the SXLA switches, the optical switching function is realised by a silicon MEMS chip, on which a mirror can be moved in and out of the optical path by electrostatic actuation. The miniature SXLA series is available as latching variant where a bistable suspension mechanism keeps the last selected state in power off. The non-latching type (i.e. SXNA) is not recommended for new designs. To operate the switch, 5 V and 0 V are applied on pins 1 and 2, which are used by the internal DC/DC converter to supply a high voltage for the actuator control. CMOS or TTL logic levels on pins 3 to 4 control the electrostatic actuator. To set the switch state, pin 3 respectively pin 4 are set to logic high (5 V) for 20 ms and the corresponding switch state is selected. At rest pins 3 and 4 should be pulled to 0 V and must not be floating.
