POD Polarimeter

Product information "POD Polarimeter"

1310, 1550 nm; IL ≤1.2 dB; PDL <0.25 dB; PMD <0.1 ps; WDL 0.15 dB; RL 55 dB

General Photonics’ POD module is an in-line polarimeter for low-cost, high-speed polarization characterization without interrupting data traffic. It outputs four voltage signals for calculating in microseconds both the degree of polarization (DOP) and the state of polarization (SOP) of the light passing through the device.

The POD polarimeter module comes with a preamplification board to provide analog signals for SOP/DOP calculation, feedback control, and computer interface. A calibration matrix is provided with every device for the calculation. Devices without preamplification board and calibration matrix are also available for OEM applications.

The POD polarimeter module is ideal for integration into polarization monitoring and polarization stabilization modules, or in polarization characterization instruments.

POS-002 Polarization Tracker
1060, 1310, 1550 nm; IL <1.2, <0.1 dB; SOP Recovery Time 0.9 ms; Tracking Speed 47 π/s; SOP Accuracy <0.1 dB; RL >50 dB General Photonics’ POS-002 polarization tracker automatically adjusts the state of polarization (SOP) towards a reference SOP, counteracting continuous input SOP variations as fast as 0.9 ms with no resets. The reference SOP is determined by a feedback signal which can be provided either internally or externally. The internal feedback version (POS-002-I) consists of a fiber squeezer polarization controller, in-line polarization monitor, digital and analog circuits, and proprietary algorithm. The error signal from the polarization monitor is fed back to the polarization controller to maintain a linear SOP at the output. The output fiber for POS-002-I is typically polarization maintaining (PM) fiber with the SOP aligned to its slow axis. The external feedback version (POS-002-E) replaces the internal polarization monitor with an external analog electrical feedback signal of the user’s choice, such as a voltage proportional to the degree of polarization (DOP) measured by a polarimeter, the bit-error rate (BER) from a BER chip, the RF spectrum of a detected signal, or the optical power after a polarizer. The output fiber is typically single mode (SM) fiber. Key Features: Reset-free Operation State of Polarization (SOP) Recovery Time: <3 ms, 0.9 ms Typical SOP Rotation Tracking Speed: 47 π/s "Plug and Play" Integration Operating Wavelength Range: 1060 ±50 nm, 1310 ±50 nm, or 1550 ±50 nm SOP Accuracy: <0.1 dB Repeatability: <0.1 dB Insertion Loss (IL, Internal Feedback): <1.2 dB, 0.8 dB Typical Insertion Loss (IL, External Feedback): <0.1 dBReturn Loss (RL): >50 dB Isolation in Orthogonal Polarization: 20 dB Optical Power Handling: <20 dBm Communications Interface: RS-232 Dimensions: 19.1 x 98 x 184 mm Applications: PMD Compensation; Polarization Division Demultiplexing; Elimination of Polarization Fading in Coherent Detection and Fiber Sensor Systems; Suppression of Noise Figure in Optical Amplifiers; Reduction of PDL Effects
