Gooch & Housego’s FPU-xxxxxxAxx series of fused PM low ratio tap couplers tap off low power from a signal path whilst maintaining polarization through the component. Gooch & Housego (G&H) proprietary PM manufacturing technology provides tap ratios as low as 0.01% with ultra-low loss and high polarization extinction ratio.
The all-fiber construction and excellent loss characteristics provide exceptional reliability at high powers. FPU-X PM low ratio tap couplers also exhibit improved tap ratio stability when input polarization extinction ratio levels are low or fluctuating.
These high-performance parts are available at a range of wavelengths with different fiber options. FPU-X PM low ratio tap couplers can therefore be readily specified in a wide variety of applications, enabling rapid design cycles and new project builds. Gooch & Housego’s (G&H) 18-X series of fused dual-clad fiber (FDCF) couplers and optical splitters offers a high coupling efficiency for multi mode (MM) fiber over a broad wavelength range with a low wavelength dependent loss.
Light launched in the single mode core of the input single mode (SM) fiber or dual-clad (DC) fiber will transmit 100% through G&H’s 18-XXXXX-XX-XXXXX series FDCF coupler directly to the inner core of the output DC fiber, while light launched in the inner cladding of the DC fiber will couple to the multi mode (MM) fiber with at least 50% coupling efficiency depending on the core size of the MM fiber as a bigger MM fiber (i.e. 250 µm core) results in a higher coupling transmission percentage (70% or higher) to the MM fiber.
As different DC fibers have different operating wavelength ranges, proper choice of SM fiber is very important for building a high-performance FDCF coupler.
The typical 2x2 FDCF couplers have DC fiber in two opposite leads and MM fiber in the other two arms. The DC input fiber can be optionally replaced with a matching SM fiber and the MM output fiber can be terminated to form a 2x1 FDCF coupler.

OZ Optics’ fiber optic beamsplitters are used to divide light from one fiber into two or more fibers. Light from an input fiber is first collimated, then sent through a beam-splitting optic to divide it into two. The resultant output beams are then focused back into the output fibers. Both 1xN and 2xN splitters can be constructed in this fashion with as many as eight or more outputs, with both low return losses and low insertion losses.
Standard parts available in this series are FOBS-12P (1x2) and FOBS-22P (2x2) pigtail-style splitters, FOBS-12 (1x2) and FOBS-22 (2x2) receptacle-style splitters, as well as LDBS-12P (pigtail-style) and LDBS-1 (receptacle-style) laser diode to fiber splitters, and finally ULBS-12P (pigtail-style) and ULBS-1 (receptacle-style) laser to fiber splitters
This design is extremely flexible, allowing to use different fiber types on different ports, and different beamsplitter optics inside. Custom designs combining circulators, polarizing splitters and non-polarizing splitters in the same package are routinely manufactured. Splitters can be made with either fibers permanently attached to each port (pigtail style) or with receptacles on each port that one can plug your fiber into (receptacle style). Within OZ Optics’ series of beamsplitters and combiners, the two most common types of splitters offered are polarizing beamsplitters and polarization maintaining (PM) beamsplitters. Polarizing beamsplitters split incoming light into two orthogonal states. They can also be used to combine the light from two fibers into a single output fiber. When used as a beam combiner, each input signal will transmit along a different output polarization axis.
PM splitters use a partially reflecting mirror to transmit a portion of the light from the input fiber to the main output fiber and reflect the remainder of the light to the second output fiber. All ports made using polarization maintaining fiber are aligned so that polarized light aligned parallel to the stress rods on the input fiber emerges from the output fibers in the same manner, maintaining the polarization state to a high degree. Splitters that only split off a small portion of the input light are commonly known as taps and often used for power monitoring applications. Gooch & Housego’s FFS-X series of single mode (SM) fiber couplers split or combine light in the visible or (near) infrared regions. The couplers utilize Gooch & Housego’s (G&H) low-loss fused fiber technology. No light leaves the fiber, therefore no alignment is required and there are no unwanted reflections.
