SX Series Fiber Optic MEMS Switches

Product information "SX Series Fiber Optic MEMS Switches"

Latching or Non-latching; 1x1, 2x1, 2x2; Fiber Type SM, MM; 600 to 1700 nm; Insertion Loss 1.0 dB; Crosstalk 60 dB; Switching Time 1 ms

Sercalo Microtechnology's SX series of fast fiber optic MEMS switches are suitable for regular test and measurement applications. For applications where high reliability is required the newer SXLA series should be chosen.

The SX series are miniature opto-mechanical switches for fiber optic communication systems and submodules, available in latching (-LT) or nonlatching (-NT) variants, with 1x1, 2x1 and 2x2 configurations. These switches offer smallest size, ease of integration and the established solid state reliability of Sercalo Microtechnology’s MEMS components.

In the SX series, the optical switching function is realised by a silicon MEMS chip, on which a mirror can be moved in and out of the optical path by electrostatic actuation. For new designs the SX switch is recommended in its latching variant, where a bistable suspension mechanism keeps the last selected state in power off.

To operate the switch, 5 V and 0 V are applied on pins 1 and 2, which are used by the internal DC/DC converter to supply a high voltage for the actuator control. CMOS or TTL logic levels on pins 3-4 control the electrostatic actuator.

To set the switch state in the latching variant, pin 3 respectively pin 4 are set to logic high (5 V) for 20 ms and the corresponding switch state is selected. At rest pins 3 and 4 should be pulled to 0 V and must not be floating.

Other geometries can be provided as special requests. At the heart of the XL8800 L-shaped x-ray line scan cameras are X-Scan Imaging’s CMOS silicon imaging detector array chips providing wide dynamic range, solid-state reliability and high performance. A wide selection of scintillation material converts x-rays into visible light for detection by the imaging array and optimizes both sensitivity and resolution. The close proximity of the analog-to-digital converters (ADC) to the detector chips minimizes interference noise. A collection of hardware for interfacing to computers and software including drivers and an intuitive application programming interface (API) with sample code expedites development of x-ray scanning systems. The XL8800 L-shaped camera is ideal for X-ray wheel inspection applications.
