II-VI Incorporated has designed the SECx series of single-emitter high-power laser diodes on C-Mount to provide the high output power, high coupling efficiency and high reliability required for pumping solid-state and next generation fiber lasers as well as direct laser and other high-power laser diode applications.

SECx series laser diodes are available in three versions:

  • SEC4-808A/B/C-01: 4 W, 808 nm, 90 µm wide emitter
  • SEC8-808A/B/C-01: 8 W, 808 nm, 190 µm wide emitter
  • SEC9-9xx-01: 9 W, 9xx nm, 90 μm wide emitter

The proprietary E2 front mirror passivation process, developed at II-VI Incorporated’s Zurich site, prevents catastrophic optical damage (COD) to the laser diode facet even at extremely high output powers. The single emitter laser diodes are p-side down mounted on a submount that is attached to a C-Mount.

CHROMALASE II Laser Diode Modules
375 to 785 nm; 18 to 120 mW; Beam Size 0.8 to 1.3 mm Circular, 1x2 to 4x1 mm Elliptical Blue Sky Research’s CHROMALASE II™ series of high-performance laser diode modules has been optimized to meet the demanding performance requirements of medical, life sciences and automated instrumentation. These laser diode modules incorporate highly integrated sophisticated electronics for laser drive and protection, modulation and feedback functions. The CHROMALASE II ultra-compact stand-alone assembly is RoHs compliant and can be ordered with a variety of collimation optics which allows easy integration into your system. A wide variety of wavelength and power options are available including the very popular 405, 488, 532 and 635 nm products. Blue Sky Research’s CHROMALASE II design incorporates standardized control and alarm firmware, protection circuitry and low-noise operation into a compact, stand-alone assembly. Everything you need to operate this laser from a simple 12 VDC supply is integrated in the laser module. The CHROMALASE II laser diode modules are temperature stabilized with a thermoelectric cooler (TEC), and the integrated controller includes laser driver, output power stabilization, adjustable power level control, modulation capability, reverse and over voltage protection and ESD-fast transient suppression circuitry. Each semiconductor laser diode system can be ordered with or without Blue Sky Research’s patented “µLens” or micro-optic beam correction optics. Systems with µLens will have near perfect Gaussian and circular beam shapes and corrected laser diode wave front distortions. Laser systems without the micro-optic beam correction have all the advantages of Blue Sky Research’s small, highly integrated packaging while retaining the standard elliptical shape (typical 3:1 aspect ratio) of semiconductor lasers. For the CHROMALASE II series of fiber-coupled diode laser modules the dedicated power supply CLPS is available as an accessory. This device provides up to 2.5 A of current for laser diode and TEC and allows the operation of the CHROMALASE II series from standard power sockets with 100 to 240 VAC. CLPS Diode Laser Power Supplies

Increasingly, network providers are concerned with component density and power consumption which translates into cost of installation and cost of ownership of a network. To address this, II-VI Incorporated offers a suite of 980 nm pump lasers from uncooled, semi-cooled and traditional-cooled pumps over a set of market leading power ranges. CM96x series pump laser modules are designed as pump sources for erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) applications. Processes and techniques of coupling the fiber to the laser allow high output powers that are very stable with both time and temperature. The CM96x series uses a 10-pin mini-butterfly (mBTF) package with mounting holes for ease of integration and thermal management, enabling smaller form factor designs. The 10-pin mBTF package is backward compatible with 14pin BTF package footprint and pinout. CM96Z***-7* TEC-cooled, 10-pin butterfly, 980 nm pump laser modules utilize a fiber Bragg grating design for enhanced wavelength and power stability performance. This product has been designed to ensure superior wavelength locking over drive current, temperature and optical feedback changes. CM96Z***-7* devices are available with kink-free output powers to 600 mW. CML96Z***-7* is the low power consumption version of CM96Z***-7*. These pump modules operate at significantly reduced TEC and overall power consumption. CML96Z***-7* devices are also available with kink-free output powers to 600 mW. The UM96Z***-7* high power, extended temperature, uncooled, 980 nm pump laser are II-VI Incorporated’s third-generation uncooled pump modules providing higher powers and lower consumption. These lasers enable designers to create reliable SFF single- and multi-channel, high-bit-rate per-channel amplification as well as replace traditional cooled pumps in high-power EDFA applications with reduced power consumption. The UM96Z-series is designed for uncooled operation at high temperature and power levels. Qualification of the enhanced G08 chip ensures high reliability even at 460 mW operating power and +75 °C. Each position is optically aligned for optimal polish geometry using KrellTech’s patented process and calibration mechanism. Connector types can also be mixed and matched in a single fixture. NOVA’s versatility provides the ability to support the polishing of many photonic components. A quick change-out of workholder fixtures provides processing capability for waveguides, optical chips, PLCs, lenses and fiber arrays. Workholders utilize a unique holding mechanism that can secure a wide range of component dimensions. The polishing angle is adjustable and custom fixtures can be fabricated for specialized applications. Bare fiber can be polished at variable angles using specialized workholders and adapters. A variety of fiber types from standard single mode (SM) to polarization maintaining (PM) and sapphire to PCF can be processed into wedge and chisel tip shapes. A quick swap-out of adapters allow the polishing of fiber diameters from 80 um to >3 mm. NOVA™ features an intuitive user interface for creating polishing programs. All parameters including cycle time, pressure and speed settings are easily inputted for all component types and desired surface geometries. A unique “manual mode” allows the adjustment of polishing parameters in real-time during NOVA™ operation. This feature streamlines process development efforts and facilitates easy and quick program creation and refinement. A new NOVA™ operation software kit is available that upgrades NOVA™ polishers with the enhanced microfeed feature. This polishing routine provides greater programming flexibility for advancing components to the polishing surface at slower and more controllable rates. While version 1 NOVA™ software was limited to 10 pre-programmed microfeed rates, with the slowest being 100 µm/s, version 2 software allows to customize rates as slow as 5 µm/min. This yields precise removal of material stock and continual component advancement. The enhanced microfeed is ideal for larger optical surfaces, delicate bare fibers, and connector air polishing. V2 also provides the ability to create "pop-up" window prompts in between each polishing step, very useful as reminder to technicians to clean fibers, inspect polishing lengths, confirm geometry, etc. before initiating the next process step. New folder management allows programs to be organized according to connector types, fiber diameters, component, etc. Bare Fiber Coning and Chisel Option The optional Orbit™ bare fiber coning and chisel system enhances NOVA™'s bare fiber processing with conical and chisel tip shaping. Unique fiber tip geometries can be formed for lensing, sensing and light guiding applications. The fiber rotation module can be mounted on standard NOVA™ variable angle and waveguide workholders. Fiber "spin" speed is user adjustable and can be set for continual rotation or the unique "360 auto-reverse" motion that prevent fiber twisting and torquing. All variables are entered and selected via a touchscreen on the Orbit™ controller. When combined with NOVA™ Auto-Angle Workholders, Orbit™ precisely positions the polishing fixture at the designed angle on a repeatable basis. Inspection Options Optional video inspection systems monitor the polishing process and inspect the polished surface directly in NOVA™.  NOVA™'s Profile Videoscope allows the real-time monitoring of component polishing. This videoscope aids with bare fiber/component positioning and confirms process completion. NOVA™'s Surface Videoscope allows the in-line inspection of polished surfaces while the component is still loaded in the polisher.
