QSMJ High Power SM Patch Cables

Product information "QSMJ High Power SM Patch Cables"

Single Mode Patchcords; 200 to 2000 nm; Fiber Type SM High Power; Optional Cooling Fins

OZ Optics’ QSMJ series of single mode fiber optic patchcords is specifically designed for high-power applications. These patchcords feature special high-power SM fibers, carefully prepared fiber endfaces and specially designed fiber optic connectors to ensure maximum power handling for your application.

In standard connectors the fibers are glued into place, and the fiber is polished flush with the connector ferrule tip. When used with high power lasers, heat generated at the tip of the fiber causes the surrounding epoxy to break down and give off gases. These gases, in turn, burn onto the tip of the fiber, causing catastrophic damage to the fiber and perhaps the entire system. In contrast, OZ Optics’ high-power connectors feature an air-gap design, where the fiber extends into free space by 1.1 to 1.5 mm, providing an epoxy-free region where thermal energy is safely dissipated without burning the surrounding material.

OZ Optics offers an adjustable focus feature in both SMA and FC connector designs to allow optimum coupling efficiency, which is critical in high power applications. A unique feature of the adjustable focus connector design is that one can adjust the distance the ferrule and fiber protrudes from the connector housing. The connector also has a built-in residual spring mechanism that allows one to safely connect two fibers together.

Our engineers have extensive working knowledge with both continuous output (CW) and pulsed laser applications and can help you select the best system for your application. Please contact AMS Technologies for further assistance.

Adhesives for Fiber Array Assemblies

Fiber arrays are used for the input and output of optical waveguide devices. NTT-AT’s AT3925M, AT9390, AT9968, AT3727E and AT3728E epoxy-based optical adhesives are used for fixing the v-grooves and have realized price reductions while enhancing moisture resistance compared to conventional products. These adhesives can be polished after assembly. NTT-AT’s AT9575M (epoxy) and AT8105 (acrylate) adhesives for optical fiber fixing have gained popularity for their good workability as non-fluid adhesives. NTT-AT has executed durability tests that have shown no peeling of a fiber array after 2,000 hours at +85 °C and 85% of humidity. With viscosities that are appropriate for the usage location, the adhesives for fiber array assemblies are easy to use. While the adhesives for fixing v-grooves show fluidity, the optical fiber fixing adhesives’ consistency is that of a paste, suitable for protecting the fiber. In case you need any consulting regarding issues related to adhesion, please contact the AMS Technologies optical adhesives experts to discuss the detailed challenges of your application. SMJ SM Patch Cables
Single Mode Patch Cables; 200-2000 nm; Fiber Type SM; Insertion Loss ≤0.2 dB; Connector Type FC/PC, SC, ST, LC, MU, E2000 For its SMJ series of single mode (SM) patch cables, OZ Optics produces high-quality fiber optics patchcords using a variety of commercially available connectors and fibers. These patchcords offer low insertion losses, and excellent repeatability. SMJ SM patch cables can be manufactured to any specified length. An array of cable materials is available, including unjacketed fiber, 0.9 mm outside diameter (O.D) loose tube buffer, 3 mm O.D Kevlar reinforced PVC jacketing, 3 mm armored cabling, and 5 mm heavy duty armored cabling as well as 3 mm or 5 mm stainless steel armored cablings. OZ Optics offers single mode (SM) fibers for a variety of wavelengths, ranging from 320 nm to 1550 nm, as well as 2000 nm fibers. They typically have a 99% numerical aperture (NA) of about 0.13. Higher NA single mode fibers are available for certain special applications. When ordering single mode fibers please specify what wavelength it will be used for. Single mode fiber designed for 1300 nm will not be single mode at 633 nm. Single mode fiber designed for 488 nm will work at 633 nm with only slightly higher losses, but at 700 nm the losses are too high. A large assortment of fiber types is available from stock. OZ Optics also offers custom cabling services for customer-provided fibers. Please contact AMS Technologies for available fiber types. SMJ SM patch cables can be terminated with NTT-FC, SC, AT&T-ST, LC, and SMA connectors, as well as other connector types. FC connectors are highly recommended for both single mode and multi mode use. They offer high precision and repeatability. SMA connectors are used mainly for very large core fibers and high-power applications. FC connectors with Super PC and angle polished (APC) end faces are available to minimize back reflection. Typical back reflection levels are 45 dB for Super PC connectors and 60 dB for APC connectors. FC connectors for SM fibers with ferrule hole sizes of 79 µm, 80 µm, and 83 µm are available to accommodate small cladding size fibers. For high-power single mode (SM) patch cables, please refer to OZ Optics’ QSMJ series.
