Product Portfolio
For applications where nothing but a constant airflow is required, AMS Technologies’ portfolio of AC fans allows powering fans directly from mains, thus significantly reducing the effort for voltage conversion and control that are necessary when using DC fans. AC fans might also take load off your system’s DC power supply as well.
The available AC fan models feature a rated voltage of 230 V AC, sizes from 78 to 254 mm and rated airflow from 45 to 1615 m³/hr. Custom AC fans (e.g. for 115 V AC power supply) can also be supplied on request.
We also offer some models equipped with a "fan performance sensor" (FPS). Such a sensor allows continuous monitoring of the fan functions and issues an alarm signal should the cooling air flow decrease or being interrupted. With this alarm signal, the application circuit can, for example, directly activate reserve cooling units or shut down the system in a controlled manner to avoid any thermal runaway.

If your project requires well-defined or variable levels of airflow or air pressure, AMS Technologies provides a broad range of brushless DC fans and blowers available from stock, covering nominal DC voltages of 12 V, 24 V and 48 V. Selecting the right brushless DC fan from our portfolio could give you the exact performance required, immune to AC input variables and variations that are always an issue with AC fans. Complementing our general-purpose fan portfolio, filter fans are available as an effective and low-cost solution for removing dissipated heat out of cabinets and enclosures.
A broad range of high-performance heat sink profiles with optimized geometries for outstanding heat transfer performance is available from AMS Technologies. Fans and heat sinks are major components of thermoelectric solutions – just as our thermoelectric (Peltier) modules or TEC temperature controllers.
Definition
In contrast to DC fans supplied from direct current sources, AC fans operate on alternating current (AC) supplies, usually on the general household mains with 230 VAC sinusoidal alternating voltage.
The rotational speed and thus the air performance of AC fans depend directly on the frequency of the supply voltage, which is usually 50 Hz, in some countries also 60 Hz. Changing or regulating the speed of AC fans is complicated and usually not useful, so AC fans are used in applications where only a constant air flow is required.
Due to the simpler design of the drive, which does not require commutation, AC fans are usually less expensive than their DC counterparts. Another advantage is that no complex power supply units or AC/DC converters are needed to power AC fans, as they are supplied directly from the mains connection.
