Product Portfolio
By leveraging our broad portfolio of optical lenses, our supplier has been implementing sophisticated integrated thermal imaging lens assemblies that include precision-molded long wave infrared (LWIR) lenses, assembled into solid aluminium/plastic housings and featuring passive athermalization for -40°C to +85°C as well as high-volume and cost-effective manufacturing.
Our thermal imaging lens assemblies range from models with a horizontal field of view (FoV) of 50° and 3.2 mm focal length to those with a FoV of 13.9° and corresponding focal length of 19 mm.
For each of the optics assemblies an optimum detector format is recommended, ranging from 160 x 120 /17 µm detectors to 384 x 288/12 µm detectors. Together with our supplier, we can design custom assemblies, including complex imaging systems for camera systems, to your exact specifications. Please get in touch with the AMS Technologies infrared imaging experts to discuss a customized solution for your requirements.

Our optics assemblies can be combined with our range of discrete detectors and arrays based on InGaAs, PbS, PbSe, Si and other detector materials. We also provide ready-to use cameras for the visible and infrared wavelength ranges as well as dedicated x-ray cameras.
Additionally, a wide range of optical lenses is available as well as other optics components like optical windows, optical filters, optical mirrors, optical prisms, etalons or optical beamsplitters. Our portfolio of optomechanics and motion control includes optical tables, breadboards, platforms and posts, but also optical mounts, rotation, linear and tilt stages or motion controllers.
Definition
Long wave infrared (LWIR) imaging assemblies are used in thermal imaging to detect energy in the infrared spectrum, so long wave thermal imaging optical assemblies include lenses that are transparent in the long wave infrared (IR) range.
Imaging assemblies consist of single or multiple lenses that are pre-assembled in metal or plastic housings for immediate use in thermal imaging cameras. In most cases, thermal imaging assemblies are optimized for the use in combination with certain types of optical image detectors, defined by the detector’s resolution and pixel size.
As imaging assemblies are made of several materials with different thermal properties, changes in temperature can lead to non-uniform changes in volume and index of refraction – which in turn can cause optical variations. Compensating for those optical variations over a temperature range is known as athermalizing a system. Athermalization can be done optically (passive athermalization) or mechanically using a feedback loop with sensor and motors to re-focus the imaging assembly (active athermalization).
Selection criteria for thermal imaging assemblies include the target and its dimensions, type and configuration of the camera and its detector or observation distance.
If you can’t determine a standard optics assembly matching your requirements, we are happy to assist you. We have many years of experience in the development and design of customized assemblies in cooperation with our suppliers. Contact us now to arrange an appointment.
