3SAE Technologies’ Liquid Clamp Cleaver II LDF, LCC II is the most advanced large diameter fiber cleaver for circular and shaped fibers from 125 to 1,000 µm. It is available in two different models, the Liquid Clamp Cleaver II-S (LCC II-S) and Liquid Clamp Cleaver II-A (LCC II-A). The LCC II-S is designed for standard, non-angle cleaving, while the LCC II-A features angle cleaving with rotation up to 30°.
The primary cause of bad cleave angles is torsional strain in the fiber, induced by torque from conventional clamps. This patented process features a completely torque-free clamping system, which uses a proprietary metal alloy ingot that melts at less than the boiling point of water.
This lead-free, cadmium-free alloy ingot is specially formulated to solidify tightly around the optical fiber when cooled, providing torque-free clamping even of non-round fibers such as octagonal shape. A solid-state temperature control system rapidly liquifies and solidifies the alloy as needed. When the alloy ingot is depleted by use, it can be easily replaced. These unique alloy ingots are available exclusively from 3SAE Technologies.
Both the LCC II-A and LCC II-S can optionally leverage an integrated manual backstop within the cleaver housing that provides enhanced cleave performance for structured fibers. Alignment of the blade, backstop, and fiber is achieved via the integrated side angle view vision system (requires PC connection). This perspective allows the user to easily verify the proper backstop and blade positioning for various fiber diameters prior to cleaving.
The Liquid Clamp Cleaver LDF, LCC II large diameter fiber cleaver has an on-board LCD that provides continuous status updates and instructs the operator in the proper loading and cleaving sequence. The menu system enables the operator to easily create, modify and use up to ten cleaving programs, allowing efficient transitions between different fiber diameters.

3SAE Technologies’ Capillary Speed Loader (CSL) facilitates rapid loading of up to 19 fibers into a capillary. Using the CSL, fiber bundles can be loaded into a capillary with as little as 10 μm of air gap between the bundle and the capillary.
The CSL utilizes a funnel shaped capillary to hold the capillary during the fiber loading process. The system uses an ultrasonic cleaner in conjunction with acetone or chemical of choice, to lubricate and remove static from the fibers during the loading stage.
The ultrasonic cleaner features one touch operation with a user adjustable cycle and visual and audible notifications. Two individual reservoirs facilitate separate cleaning and loading stages. The CSL also includes an onboard heater to expedite the evaporation process of the acetone after loading.
The CSL Capillary Speed Loader includes standard fixturing for 700 μm and 870 μm outer diameter capillaries. Custom sizes are available on request.

Large diameter (LD) optical fibers are increasingly important in the development of new optical technologies. Cleaving these fibers presents many challenges, more so as the fiber diameter increases. Low angle offsets and smooth, flat end faces are required. Many fibers are non-round or have internal structures that interfere with conventional cleaving. With some fibers priced in hundreds of euros per meter, the length of cutoff scrap must be minimized.
3SAE Technologies’ EPS II End Face Preparation Station meets these challenges with a novel, polishing-based design that now features both flat and angle polishing. The results are consistent, even for shaped fibers. The end faces are flat and highly polished.
EPS II is not an adapted connector polisher – it is a purpose-built large diameter (LD) optical fiber preparation unit optimized for splicing and other large diameter fiber termination applications.
Choose from a selection of standard programs, or create and store a custom program for a specific fiber. Selectable programs ensure repeatable performance and the bright, clear LCD screen guides the user with the correct action for each step. No special skill or “touch” is required –the EPS II’s precision fixturing holds the fibers precisely, and the automated system lowers the fibers smoothly onto the adjustable-speed polishing plate.
A filtered-air final cleaning/drying system is used to dry the fiber after cleaning in the included 3SAE Technologies Ultrasonic Cleaner, a purpose-built ultrasonic fiber cleaner that was designed specifically for fiber applications. Many years of splicing experience went into the functional, ergonomic design that ensures consistent cleaning results.
When the preparation process is complete, the fiber end faces are flat, low-angle and ready for splicing. Less than 2 mm of scrap length means less wasted expensive fiber and allows more accurate placement of splices and components.

3SAE Technologies’ FPU II Fiber Preparation Unit provides non-contact and chemical-free window or end face stripping of polyimide or carbon coated optical fibers in a small, affordable package.
The FPU II window or end face stripping unit features 3SAE Technologies’ patented “Ring of Fire®” technology which surrounds the fiber with a uniform heat in controlled ionic conditions. This patented low temperature arc plasma process will window or end face strip polyimide and carbon coated fibers quickly and cleanly without use of any mechanical blades, acid or any other chemicals.
The automated process provides consistent stripping results without requiring any special operator skills. The FPU II system is adaptable to your process and can accommodate fiber holders from the most common fusion splicer manufacturers. Strip lengths are adjustable and easily programmable.
Tough polyimide or carbon coatings are difficult to remove without severely degrading the fiber’s mechanical integrity. Other polyimide stripping technologies use mechanical blades or rapid thermal decomposition, which produces low tensile strength while leaving the fiber dirty. A more commonly used method, strong acid/alkali chemistry, is hazardous and produces toxic waste.
Utilizing 3SAE Technologies’ patented Ring of Fire® pulsed plasma etching technology, the FPU II window or end face stripping unit removes polyimide and carbon coatings safely and cleanly. The standard FPU II system accommodates a single fiber up to 1,000 μm diameter, with appropriate fixtures.
The FPU II’s control interface is accessed via the mounted LCD and keypad. This interface provides operational status updates and provides the operator with advanced control of plasma characteristics, temperature and positioning. The operator can quickly and easily recall and store parameters in any one of up to eight available recipe locations. This allows quick translations between fiber stripping programs.
